Style Resolutions 2016 – Fun in the Sun

Ok, ok. We know there’s probably still ice on the windows, as your stack of shorts sit covered in a fine layer of dust in the closet, but that’s exactly the reason we can’t help but dream of a little fun in the sun! If you ask us, it’s never too early to start planning your first beach-bound break of the New Year… and we’ve got a list of must-have vacation items inspired by style trends for 2016. Why not try a few?

Bathing suits – We’re sure you have a drawer full of bathing suits…but do you really wear all of them? Or do you stick to just one or two you feel comfortable with. You know…the “safe” choices? Well it’s time to shake things up in 2016! If you’re a one-piece kind of gal, then this epic halter is the way to go. The pin-up feel and sweetheart neckline is flattering on every silhouette. If you’ll be pursuing some sun-and-fun activities, then active tops like these will keep your “girls” in place. Pair them with some board shorts or even a swim skirt. But if your heart is set on a new bikini, this top and bottom can’t go wrong!

Cover-ups – If your “safe zone” cover-up of choice has been a tee shirt and shorts, there’s no better time than the present to step it up a notch. A lovely sheer dress, like this one, will turn heads for sure! This loose and flowy caftan is also perfect for sunnier climes and lounging by the pool. But then we can’t forget about this easy and breezy kimono-like cover-up…it’s got all the comfort of a robe, but it looks super chic over a swimsuit.

Sightseeing – Again, your “safe zone” pick here has probably been a tee and shorts, but we’re hoping you’ll continue to try out new trends when taking in a bit of sightseeing. It’s not as easy as you might think to stay cool and comfortable walking around unfamiliar terrain in sweltering temps, though. The trick is to keep things thin and loose…yet not to look like you’re wearing an unflattering sheet. That’s where the 2016 shirtdress trend comes in. This one would not only be perfect for sightseeing, but can also double as a cover-up poolside. Or, you could opt for a lacey and flowy romper, like this. And who could forget the perfection of a cotton strapless sundress? Certainly not us!

Evening wear – One of the best things about evening wear while on vacation is that very rarely does it call for a restrictive and heavy evening gown. That’s the whole point of vacation, right? Lightening up? Feeling free? The secret is to find dresses that are “vacation-y” yet can be dressed up with the right shoes and accessories. Dresses like these with an ombre or tie-dye effect are perfect for a holiday evening out. There’s a whole lot of gorgeous things to be said about jumpsuits like this and this as well… they look fab with some high-heeled strappy sandals!

Shoes – And speaking of high-heeled strappy sandals, these sexy stunners will work perfectly for almost any evening outfit you can conjure up while on holiday. Of course, you’ll also need a pair of comfy and colorful flip-flops, like these, or… if you’d like a little more “fabulous” in your flip-flops, try these. If the occasion calls for a somewhat dressier flat, these canvas and leather demure gladiator sandals are ideal. And since no vacation would be complete without a platform wedge, you might as well bring two pairs, nude and black, to go with everything!
