What to wear on a first date

First dates are nerve-wracking enough without having to factor in what you are are going to wear as well, but never fear, we are going to help your create a perfect first date outfit, from a formal evening, through smart casual all the way down to a casual outfit as well. There is a lot of pressure on a first date, and if you feel comfortable in your clothing you will find yourself at ease to worry about some of the elements of the day/night. Remember, if you are being surprised always ask your date how to dress, it really is no fun showing up in a dress and heels if they have planned for you to go rock climbing. Knowing ahead of time will save your blushes and ensure you have a great first date.

Smart date:

If your first date is something a bit more formal, maybe dinner, cocktails or even going to see a show you might want to consider dressing up for the occasion. A plain colored fit and flare dress (and you can never go wrong with a little black dress can you?) will look great and help you fit in in both environments. Add a great fitted blazer which always looks incredible over a fit and flare dress and will help to keep you warm too. Pair with a pair of heeled Mary Janes or a pair of flat ballerina pumps and a  small clutch purse will really finish this outfit off.

Smart-casual date:

Maybe your date is going to be something less formal, maybe you are going to see a movie and are meeting for drinks beforehand, if so you will want to create an outfit where you still look smart for the drinks portion of the evening but will fit it in a more casual setting as well. If your date dress code is smart – casual a good option to start with is a great pair of dark skinny jeans. Pair these with a smart blouse and add a cute cardigan, and on your feet a pair of ballerina pumps will finish off the outfit and keep you comfortable too. In colder months a pair of ankle boots will look great over skinny jeans.

Casual date:

If your date is of more a casual nature there are still many ways to make your outfit look stylish and first date appropriate. You might be going for a picnic on a sunny day, a walk through the countryside or maybe something even more active depending on your interests. You will want to dress casually, pick a pair of cargo pants or casual denim shorts if the weather is good. Add in a casual t-shirt and a pair of casual but comfortable espadrilles on your feet. Keep things casual with a large slouch bag and a light jacket in case you get cold.
