Worthwhile Styling Tips We Can All Learn from Olivia Palermo

Sure, she may have hit the scene playing in the spin-off to The Hills, The City, alongside the slightly-ditzy but ever-fashionable Whitney Port, but her life since the semi-reality show has been full of real-life fashion non-stop. Not only has she modeled, appearing on those huge fashion mags we all covet, but she’s also been expanding her style resume by collaborating on jewelry and shoe lines, as well as acting as guest editor on several clothing sites. So, yeah, she knows a thing or two about fashion…and you can too, by using some of her styling tips!

  • A statement coat can make the outfit – If the weather is cool enough, you’re in such luck! Even a simple sheath dress and tights can be completely transformed by a fierce statement coat. Heck, if it’s comfortable enough, you can keep it on all day, and voila! Instant all-day chic coat-as-dress ensemble!
  • Pink is pretty perfect – Yes, pink can be super girly and romantic, but above all, it’s feminine. Pink can be worn big and bold and on its own, but it can also be incorporated into outfits alongside other colors, with textures, and through pattern.
  • Let your shoes do the talking – A mono-color outfit and purse, simple sleek ponytail, and wildly gorgeous, colorful heels. How simple is that?! It also just so happens to be one of Olivia’s favorite go-to outfits. You have seen her more than once (and no doubt will see her again a various times in the future) pair a matching and monochrome pants/skirt/shirt/blouse/dress with a beautiful patterned or colorful pair of pumps or booties.  And this option is so quick and easy for those occasions when you have no time to fuss over an outfit.
  • A shoulder-draped coat is amazing – Okay, so this is more solely for fashion, not so much for practicality (because if it was really chilly, you’d obviously be wearing the coat) …but you have got to admit it…a stylish blazer or jacket worn draped over the shoulders just looks oh-so-chic, right? It’s just something you could see Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn, or Olivia Palermo doing! It immediately adds an air of polish and sophistication that actually wearing the jacket just can’t touch.
  • YES to the printed pant – You can spend a good few hours examining every stunning fashion pic of Olivia…or you can take a look at just a few and take our word for it. If you can learn anything from Olivia’s style, it’s that fashion is fun. Her style is never boring. It’s always got at least some element of frivolity to it, some dash of the unexpected. So, going by that mantra, why not try a printed pant? Whether wide-legged, flowy, and whimsical, or straight-legged, tailored, and refined…a print can go a long way to making a chic statement.
