Worthwhile Styling Tips We Can All Learn from Taylor Swift

Even if you might be a little out of touch with all of Swifty’s comings and goings… where she’s performing, who’s in her “squad,” who’s out of her “squad,” who she’s dating, who’s she’s no longer dating (but is writing a not-naming-names scathing and uber-catchy hit about). We don’t blame you…she’s only 20-something, but her schedule seems exhausting! One thing you must have noticed by now though is her classic and effortlessly chic style, right? She never ceases to delight and surprise with her ever-evolving fashion sense. And, as it turns out, we can learn a lot from this young (but fashionably wise-beyond-her-years) songbird.

Tip #1Ankle boots/booties are our friend – One quick look through a catalogue of her greatest fashion hits will show you that Tay Tay loves her ankle boots! She wears them faithfully through all four seasons, and in all variations of heel height and thickness. Chelsea boots, wedge, stiletto booties, block heels, even peep-toe. And she can wear them with a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g. Jeans, sundresses, bodycon dresses, mini-skirts, even shorts.

Tip #2 – A sweater or cardigan tied around your waist can also be our best friend – This is tip-worthy for so many reasons! Not only does it allow for varying temperatures (which, depending on where you live, can be especially tricky in the Spring and Fall months), but you can also wear it to help visually break-up a monochrome outfit, and, most important of all, define your waist!

Tip #3 – A crop top helps to balance out flowy pants or a skirt – Granted, Taylor looks to weigh every bit of 50 lbs., soaking wet, but this trick of hers can translate for just about any body shape or type. Even if you are on the plus-size-side, you can find cropped tops, like this and this, that hit right at your natural waist and are not made solely of Lycra (so they are still fitted without being skin-tight). The reason it works is because it allows you to wear much fuller and much more flowy skirts and pants (hello…camouflaging!) without looking like the aforementioned skirt and pants are trying to swallow you up. Your waist and feminine silhouette are kept on display.

Tip #4 – An A-line skirt is the ultimate flattering and versatile piece – Granted, with Swifty, she gravitates toward the mini variety of the A-line skirt, but even that, so long as it hits at a respectable distance between your upper thigh and knee, like this, can be super flirty and completely flattering! She pairs them with everything from crop tops to classic white button-downs and blouses…and looks fab every time.

Tip #5 – When in doubt, black it out – While she does don an all-black outfit quite often, T.S. usually keeps the outfits from looking too morbid and heavy by pairing them with pops of color, either in her shoes, purses, or jackets. And if all else fails, that bright blonde hair and bold red lip can always create enough visual interest to last for dayssss.
