Braniston fans who have been heartbroken since Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt announced their split 15 years ago got a jolt of happiness last night. The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards brought the old flames back together for a few affectionate moments. It turns out they weren’t done crossing paths after the SAGs.
Entertainment Tonight reported that Pitt and Aniston attended the same after-party at Sunset Tower in Los Angeles. Before you get too excited and start searching images from the event, ET also reports that the two were not photographed interacting at the party. This doesn’t mean they didn’t, though.
If the actual awards ceremony tells us anything, it’s that the exes are perfectly content in each other’s presence. Aniston clapped for Pitt’s (admittedly very funny) marriage joke during his acceptance speech for his win in Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role. According to E!, Pitt “stopped everything” backstage to watch Aniston win her award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series. Then there was that cute PDA moment that involved some hand-holding and the ever-lusted after move where one person walks away, but you’re still holding hands.
This is not a post that is going to blow a few details out of complete proportion, because as far as anyone knows, Braniston are purely platonic these days. A source told Us Weekly in December 2019 that Pitt and Aniston are—when it comes down to it—just good friends.
“Brad and Jen have a wonderful connection that might seem flirtatious at times,” the source told Us. “They dig each other’s sense of humor and have an infectious energy when they’re together, but they insist things are purely platonic and nothing more than that.”
Anyone who still holds on to their 2005 tabloids will remember that the early-aughts split, after five years of marriage, was a rough one, especially for Aniston. But the source told Us that time has been very healing for both her and Pitt.
“It took a while for Jen to heal and for Brad to stop feeling bad for how he left her back in 2005,” the source said. “This is something they’ve taken their time with, and they’re well aware of the hysteria around their relationship among their fans.”
