Kate Middleton and Prince William React to Brad Pitt’s Joke About Prince Harry at the BAFTAs

Brad Pitt wasn’t at the BAFTAs last night, but he won Best Supporting Actor and had his Once Upon a Time in Hollywood co-star Margot Robbie deliver his acceptance speech for him. (Pitt could not attend due to family obligations, although a source close to Pitt reassured Cosmopolitan UK that “nothing serious happened.”)

Pitt was kind enough to put a Brexit and Prince Harry joke in there, which Robbie had to say in front of Kate Middleton and Prince William. But she took it in stride, and so did the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Pitt started with the Brexit joke, drawing a parallel to his love life and divorces. “Brad couldn’t be here tonight due to family obligations, so he asked me to read his response for him,” Robbie began. “He starts by saying, ‘Hey Britain. Heard you just became single. Welcome to the club! Wishing you the best for the divorce settlement, blah blah blah.’ He then says, ‘Thank you to the Academy for this extreme honor.’ He says he’s ‘always been a bit intimidated over here given the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and the titans that have come before, so this is especially meaningful.'” Pitt then gave his thank yous to the film’s team.

The actor saved the Prince Harry quip for last. Robbie finished Pitt’s speech, saying, “He’s gonna name this [BAFTA] Harry, because he’s really excited about bringing it back to the States with him. His words, not mine, thanks!”

Harry and Meghan Markle, of course, just stepped back from their senior roles within the royal family, with the intention to split their time between the UK and North America.

The camera caught Kate and William’s reaction right after Robbie said the line at the 1:40 mark, and they just laughed. Keep calm and carry on.
