Naya Rivera’s Glee Costars Reunited at Lake Piru to Pay Their Respects

ABC7 caught a poignant, bittersweet sight at Lake Piru this afternoon, shortly before the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department gave its press conference confirming that Naya Rivera’s body had been found. Rivera’s Glee co-stars had gathered at the lake with Rivera’s family, holding hands and looking out at the water where Rivera spent her final hours. As journalist Dave Quinn pointed out, today is also the seven-year anniversary of their co-star Cory Monteith’s death.

Several of Rivera’s Glee co-stars have addressed her disappearance on their social media.

Heather Morris volunteered on Twitter to help with the search for Rivera over the weekend. On July 9, she thanked authorities running the investigation and told fans to let them continue to run it. She wrote:

Thank you to the Tulare County, Los Angeles County, San Louis Obisbo, and all who are working to tirelessly right now in the search and recovery of our Naya. I have spoken to Sheriff Eric Buschow and rest assured they are using every single one of their resources to locate our Naya. I have full confidence that they’re doing everything they can, and probably more. We will hold off on the citizen search and rescue until we get the go ahead that they’ll allow volunteers. Understand it’s 110 degrees here and if you’re not highly trained in search and rescue, this could end up a much more dangerous situation for everybody involved. Please be kind, compassionate and caring for those who are looking for our Naya.

Rivera’s costars Amber Riley and Kevin McHale also Tweeted about Rivera.

Riley called out fans attacking certain Glee cast members for not saying anything about Rivera on social media. “Show some respect,” she wrote. “All our energy is going toward helping find Naya and praying for her safe return and for her family. No one owes anyone online a performance of grief. This is very real and devastating. Focus on Naya and her family. Not us. We don’t matter right now.

McHale echoed Riley’s point, retweeting her post and adding, “I cannot begin to understand what Naya’s family must be feeling. I know the rest of us are completely shattered, but not without hope. Please respect her family & their privacy in this moment. Please refrain from judging those who don’t show their pain on social media.”
