Skirts to suit your body type

With summer so brightly shining it is the perfect time of year to try out some beautiful skirts. The sun really makes a skirt look fantastic but are also great transitional pieces which can be worn throughout any season, just pair them with some tights/pantyhose.

Hourglass figure:

An hourglass figure has a bus and hips of a similar sized and will boast a defined waist. Pencil skirts are incredibly flattering on curvy girls, especially those with a high waist. Hourglass figures will want to balance their bust and hips and accentuate their waist. Dark colors are also preferable for this body shape. Hourglass figures often have great legs so do not forget to show off this area in a great skirt.

Apple figure:

An apple shaped figure has broad shoulders, a larger bust with a narrower waist and hips. If you are an apple shaped figure you might want to consider a flounce skirt, meaning one which has a wide ruffle sewn onto it. In this situation the waistband will be at the smallest part of your torso and will flare out over the stomach, giving you the most flattering lines. Similarly, an A-line skirt or empire hem will do the same, flattering you where it works best. You will want to draw attention away from your mid-section and if you have a belt or belted skirt then you will want these belted at the smallest part of your waist. Being an apple shape you will find you can really pull off shorter skirts, lucky you!

Pear figure:

A pear shaped figure will have a small bust, a longer waist, a flat tummy and wider hips and thighs. As a pear figure you will want to emphasize your waist and you may even want to experiment with visually interesting hemlines. An A-line skirt will help to highlight the smallest part of your waist and flares out across your hips. Being pear shaped means you definitely have carte blanche for trying out as many visually interesting skirt styles as possible. Why not cash in on the current Hi-lo skirt trend, where the skirts are short at the front and lower at the back, this will help detract eyes away from your widest areas. Another great style is tulip skirts, as are wide hems which are another great look for pear shaped women.

Rectangle figure:

A rectangular figure has balanced hips and bust and your waist is not very defined. A pencil skirt with a split will add a visual interest, while full or bubble skirts will look best on your figure.

Remember, always wear what you feel comfortable in. As long as you feel good that is all that matters.
