Kate Winslet is back on HBO. After starring in Mare of Easttown, the Oscar winner is going from small-town detective to Madame Chancellor in the upcoming limited series The Regime (formerly titled The Palace). Due out next year from the executive producers of Succession, this political satire just might fill the void after the Roys leave our screens in 2023.
To anyone who marveled over Winslet’s Delco accent in Mare, please turn your attention to the subtle drawl she delivers in The Regime. Here’s what else to look out for.
When will The Regime premiere?
There’s no official date yet, but HBO says it’s “coming in 2024.” Check out the first teaser trailer below.

What is The Regime about?
The limited series “tells the story of one year within the walls of the palace of a modern European regime as it begins to unravel,” the official logline says. We’re still awaiting more details, but Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming, previously praised showrunner Will Tracy’s “wildly original, prescient, and dazzling scripts.” We get a taste of the series’ dry humor in the first trailer, too.
Who is in the cast?
Winslet will be accompanied by: Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone), Guillaume Gallienne (Me, Myself and Mum), Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie), Martha Plimpton (The Goonies), and Hugh Grant.
HBO also announced other new additions to the cast: Danny Webb (Alien 3), David Bamber (Valkyrie), Henry Goodman (Yes, Prime Minister), Stanley Townsend (The Libertine), Louie Mynett, Rory Keenan (The Duchess), Karl Markovics (The Counterfeiters), and Pippa Haywood (The Brittas Empire).
The series is directed by Stephen Frears (Dangerous Liaisons) and Jessica Hobbs (The Crown), and written by Will Tracy, who co-wrote The Menu and episodes of Succession. Winslet, Frears, and Tracy are also executive producing, along with Frank Rich (Succession) and Tracey Seaward (The Queen).
Writers are Seth Reiss (The Menu), Juli Weiner (Last Week Tonight with John Oliver), Jen Spyra (The Late Show with Stephen Colbert), Gary Shteyngart (Succession), and Sarah DeLappe (Bodies Bodies Bodies).
