On Wednesday of last week, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ended their six-week long holiday in Canada with some big news. They announced that they would be stepping back as “senior” members of the royal family and splitting their time between the U.K. and North America. The palace seemed to be slightly shocked by this news, but royal fans didn’t hear a peep out of any other major member of the royal family on the matter.

This doesn’t mean that members of the family don’t have opinions on this news, though. The Times reported that Prince William confessed to an unnamed friend about the fact that Meghan and Harry are separating themselves from the rest of the royal family, particularly from the charity work that they were initially doing with William and his wife, Kate Middleton.

“I’ve put my arm around my brother all our lives, and I can’t do that anymore. . .I’m sad about that,” he told his friend, per The Times. He went on: “All we can do, and all I can do, is try and support them and hope that the time comes when we’re all singing from the same page. I want everyone to play on the team.”

While this is arguably the biggest shift for the royal family so far, last year Meghan and Harry started to make some definite moves signaling that there was more to come. In June, they filed for a foundation trademark that was separate from that of Kate and William. In late December, that trademark went public.

It’s not clear what Harry and Meghan’s life will look like going forward; much of that will likely be discussed in the big royal family “summit” happening tomorrow. Unofficial family meetings are awkward enough. Imagine it being so official that it’s called a “summit.” Yikes.
