Exes Harry Styles and Taylor Swift Were Filmed Talking at the Grammys

Taylor Swift was filmed during the Grammys broadcast applauding for her ex-boyfriend Harry Styles when he won his first Grammy for best pop solo performance. But the two ended up having a much bigger moment than that later in the night. The Recording Academy got footage of the two talking.

This is their first public conversation since their split back in 2013. Styles was laughing at one point, and Swift seemed pretty animated talking to him too. It seemed very much like a friendly chat. Though you can’t hear what they’re saying, you can watch and make what you will of the body language below:

Swift and Styles are both dating other people now: Swift has been with British actor Joe Alwyn for over four years, while Styles is newly dating actress Olivia Wilde. In a sign of how serious Swift’s relationship with Alwyn has become, Swift gave her boyfriend a very direct shoutout in her Grammy acceptance speech for album of the year.

“Joe, who is the first person that I play every single song that I write, and I had the best time writing songs with you in quarantine,” she said to him. (Alwyn wrote songs for Grammy-winning album folklore under the pseudonym William Bowery.)

Styles, for what it’s worth, put out the signal last year that any post-breakup resentment is long gone on his end when he praised Swift last March during an interview with Howard Stern. (Swift and Styles’ relationship ran from late 2012 to early 2013.)

He spoke about Swift’s song-writing and how moved he was that she wrote about him and their relationship on her 1989 album. “I think about what it means to me to write a song about somebody else and for somebody else to do that, it’s like flattering, even if the song isn’t that flattering, you still spent time on it and ultimately, using Taylor as an example, she’s a great songwriter. So at least they’re good songs,” he said, via E! and Just Jared.

“The only time you really think, ‘is this song too personal?’ is if you think about, ‘is this going to be really annoying for the other person?’ Because I do [care],” he finished.
