Cara Delevingne’s relationship status with Ashley Benson became a little murkier last night when the actress—or more likely, a hacker—temporarily tweeted from her account that the two had broken up. Entertainment Tonight took a screenshot of the tweet sent at 9:40 P.M.
“Me and Ashley broke up,” Delevingne wrote. Within less than 20 minutes, the outlet detailed, Delevingne had taken the tweet down. Neither she nor Benson have updated their social media with any further details. But JustJaredJr notes that a bunch of messages were sent from Delevingne’s Twitter at the time of the initial tweet, including one with a fake iPhone giveaway. The likely verdict: Someone hacked Delevingne’s account, then her team quickly regained control of the account.
Delevingne and Benson have been dating for over a year. Delevingne told Marie Claire in August that the two met while shooting Alex Ross Perry’s Her Smell in the spring of 2018. “We weren’t looking for it,” Delevingne said. “It was really just very authentic and natural.”
This June, Delevingne made their relationship Instagram official and seemingly gave Benson a very loving shoutout in her speech at the TrevorLIVE Gala that month. “I also have another very special woman in this room to thank, and you know who you are,” she started. “She’s one of the people who help me love myself when I needed it most, and I really needed it. She showed me what real love is and how to accept it, which is a lot harder than I thought.” She ended her speech by calling Benson by a pet name: “I love you, Sprinkles.”
Delevingne last made headlines last week for leaving a cheeky comment on a nude photo that Benson posted on her Instagram.
