With New York Fashion Week (NYFW) behind us and summer making its official exit, I think it’s safe to say that we can officially focus on all things FALL. After all, for the budget-conscious fashionista, it is important to wait and see which trends get the most love from the NYFW street style scene, so you know which ones you need to invest in for your autumn wardrobe.
From the boldest of reds to couch print florals to velvet, there’s a lot of good stuff happening in the fashion department this fall. You may or may not be ready for this, but one of the most notable trends of the season is CAMO. The renaissance of this pattern started making its way down the fashion pipelines last fall and made an impressionable impact, which explains how and why camo is an IT trend for 2017.
I know, living on the “wild” side and wearing bold prints (like camo) can be scary. The good news is there are a variety of ways you can approach styling this trend without looking too “avant-garde.” Also, for my classic-natural gals who are currently thinking, “I would never wear camo,” I’m happy to report that this is your PERFECT print, as it combines all those great natural colors you love!
Ok, enough shop talk, let’s get some visual inspiration. Here are 5 ways you can rock camo for fall 2017.
#1: CAMO WITH A TOUCH OF FEMININITY
As a stylist, one of the complaints I’ve often heard about camo is that it feels too masculine. Trust me, I get it – it’s hard to disassociate camo print from military toughness. But here are two things to remind yourself:
1. Incorporating masculine-esque pieces is totally okay. In fact, it’s encouraged to create some contrast in your look.
2. You can also add ultra-feminine pieces to soften a look or trend.
For this look, I’ve paired a silk lace-trimmed top with camo denim. Nothing screams femininity quite like silk and lace. Coordinating supple fabrics with a bold camo print is a great way to approach this must-have trend. For finishing touches, I incorporated a gold statement earring, another big trend for fall 2017, and a soft brown lip to help balance the overall tone of this outfit.

#2: MONOCHROMATIC CAMO
One of the things I love most about camo is the richness of neutral colors. Shades of green, tan and brown all combined are a neutral fashionista’s dream. Considering the colors that make up camouflage, another great way you can approach this trend is monochromatically.
For this tone-on-tone look, I paired an embellished camo pocket tee with a complementary colored silk textured pant. The great thing about this look is that the camo is confined to the pocket detail, which is a great option for those of you who prefer a subtler approach to bold prints.
Another great about this look is that I’ve incorporated a more pajama-like trouser, which allows you to capitalize on two trends at once: the camo trend and the pajama trend.
With a monochromatic concept, it’s important to add a pop of color to your look. You can do that by adding a bold lip color!

#3: CAMO COLOR CHANGE UP
Not everyone is crazy about the rich green that is often found in the camo print. If that’s you, then I want to encourage you to do a camo color change-up. You can opt for a lighter shade!
This camo printed tee combines green and blue to create a lighter shade, which makes it the perfect option for those who want something bold, yet soft and approachable.
To complete this look, I paired the printed tee with black skinny jeans and brass gold statement earrings that have a touch of light blue to further accent the shirt’s base colors.

#4: RELAXED CAMO MOTO
Looking to approach the camo trend in a more relaxed way? A camo moto legging is an easy way to achieve both comfort and style. Considering that this particular camo print is smaller than the type from Look 1, I opted to layer with a solid colored tunic. For a touch of feminine flare, the ruffle detail on the sleeve is a great way to pull everything in.
To complete this look, as well as bring in a little extra color, I finished it with a rose gold double layered hoop.

#5: ATHLETIC-INSPIRED CAMO
Continuing with the relaxed approach to camo, making an athletic-inspired look is another suitable way to tackle this trend for fall. Rather than opting for an athleisure pant, go for a printed camo dress and layer it accordingly.
This long hooded cardigan is the perfect pair for this skater dress. With trend colors in mind for fall, go for the dark green layering piece rather than tan or light brown. As you would suspect, darker greens are a big deal this season.
