Worthwhile Styling Tips We Can All Learn from Jennifer Lawrence

When Jennifer Lawrence hit the acting scene with her first big-time role as Mystique in X-Men: First Class, we all sat up and took notice. But when we first actually heard her speak in interviews, utterly as herself, we all absolutely fell in love with her. Ever since then, she’s not only been wowing us on the silver screen, but on the red carpet as well. As it turns out, another one of JLaw’s natural born talents is being a fashionista! And lucky for us, there are some worthwhile style tips we can all learn from her lead…

  • Athleisure does not equal sloppy – The booming trend of “athleisure” is quickly becoming a way of life for some Hollywood celebs, but few seem to have mastered the vibe better than JLaw. Going out to run a few errands in sneakers, jeans, slouchy sweater or sweatshirt? Sure thing! Just make sure you step up the sneakers a notch, like this or this, and keep it far away from “too casual” by adding a studded/edgy tote.
  • Do the double denim – As a twenty-something, it’s almost mandatory for Jennifer to incorporate a lot of denim into her “off the clock” wardrobe…but it’s the way she does it that is noteworthy. You know that random fashion rule that was established post-80s that says you aren’t supposed to wear double denim…jeans with jean jackets, jeans with chambray shirts, etc.? Yeah, well, JLaw is proving that to be so wrong. She shows us it’s all in how you wear them that makes it work. If you add uber cool, rocker-chic accessories, like slouchy beanies, hot heeled shoes/booties, and edgy sunglasses, trust us…you can pull off double denim with the best of ‘em.
  • Fall back on LBS (little black separates) – Sure, Jen will strut a LBD without batting an eye, but it seems she also knows the power little black separates can have. While she tends to favor those pieces that expose her killer abs and midriff, you could easily pull off this style with non-cropped tops as well…just be sure to highlight/break-up the all black look with a lighter colored belt at your midsection. The separates give the same stylish vibe, but provide you with a bit more comfort than a one-piece.
  • Don’t be afraid to mix feminine with masculine – Rarely will you see JLaw in either an all-girly look or an all-masculine look in her down time. Both for casual days out shopping as well as evening parties and dinner dates, she will artfully blend the two, creating a look that’s eclectic yet approachable, and oh-so-lovely. For example, if you’ve got a girly white day dress, pair it with a blazer and brogues to add a touch of the masculine. Perfectly unexpected, but it totally works!
