The Best Fall Scents to Have in Your Home this Season

As fall transitions us to cooler months, we’re partnering with our favorite bloggers to show us how they style this season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips and makeup trends to hairstyles and home décor, we’re excited to see how these stylistas gear up for autumn weather. This week, we’re welcoming Jess of The Golden Girl to share how she incorporates fall scents into her home using this season’s trendiest candles, wax melters and essential oils.

I don’t know about you, but as soon as the first leaves begin to fall, I break into my happy dance faster than you can say “pumpkin spice latte.” There are so many things I love about this season in particular: the feeling of pulling on that ultra-soft favorite sweater for the first time, bundling in a cozy blanket while sipping coffee on the front porch and the fact that everything seems to subtly slow down.

Plus, you can’t forget – all the fall scents! If your heart doesn’t skip a beat when you roll past the Meijer candle display and see stacks on stacks of festive candles, are you really human?

There are so many ways to incorporate amazing fall scents into your home, from the cult classic – Yankee candles, of course – to wax melters, essential oil diffusers and more.

Classic Candles

Not only are they a great treat for yourself, but I love having extra candles on hand to bring to parties and events – they make the perfect hostess gift. Speaking of entertaining, they also help to set the tone for your fall dinner party! I always make sure to light a candle an hour or so before my guests arrive so the amazing scent can make its way through the house.

There are so many good scents to choose from, but among my favorites are “Harvest” (which has spicy notes of clove) and “Autumn Wreath” (with tones of crisp leaves and warm cinnamon apples).

I also picked up a couple of tea lights to put in this rustic wooden candle holder. I love when something practical doubles as something beautiful! Adding wood accents to your décor helps bring outdoor elements into your space in an unexpected and sophisticated way.

Meijer also sells these adorable white mini pumpkins for just a couple of dollars each! I scatter them throughout my house, mixing in a few with candles for a beautifully simple coffee table display.

Speaking of décor, Meijer has some great statement pieces that can really “up” your home’s cozy vibes. I love this burnt sienna-colored crocheted throw, which comes in tons of other fall shades, too. Perfect for Netflix nights in! I also picked up a couple of faux fur pillows. They’re not just warm – they also bring some texture to my sofa for added interest.

Wax Melters

Have you ever heard of a wax melter? I was somewhat familiar with them, but I had never tried them for myself, and wow was I missing out!

I was torn between two different melters so, naturally, I bought both and now use them in different rooms in my home. Bonus: The best thing about wax melters is that they are completely safe to burn. If you constantly worry about walking out the door with a candle left burning, you might find that you like these as a better alternative.

Scentsationals Edison Bulb Wax Melter

I had no idea something like this existed! My favorite part about this warmer is that it truly does look like a lamp. It adds rustic charm to an accent table and would be great for an entryway, too.

How it works: the heat from the lightbulb warms the tray above, where you place one or two wax cubes, which slowly melt and diffuse your home with their lovely smell. Plus, it looks great when the light is turned off as well.

I really liked that the aromas of the Scentsationals wax cubes were different than the scents from other candles I tried. My favorites:  “Sienna Suede” and “Autumn Cashmere.” They truly smell luxurious – like a scent you would come across in a high-end boutique.

Yankee Candle Wax Melter

I purchased the “American Home by Yankee Candle” wax melter for our bedroom. I loved the white ceramic design and knew it would look adorable on the nightstand next to our reading nook.

For this diffuser, I chose “Warming Pumpkin Chai,” which, as you might guess, smells just like a pumpkin chai latte. I love burning this when I get up in the morning. I also purchased “Shades of Fall,” which is a light, sweet and spicy fragrance that’s great for when I need a bit of a pick-me-up.

Fun idea: a white ramekin (available in Meijer’s home goods section) can double as a holder for your wax cubes.

Essential Oil Diffusers

If you remember my post from earlier this year, you’ll know I’m a big fan of my essential oil diffuser! There are so many ways incorporating essential oils into your daily routine can help with your health, as well as your mood.

I love that Scentsationals came out with these three fall essential oils: Cinnamon, Spice, for uplifting your mood (great when you need an afternoon pick-me-up), and Clove, for calming (I love diffusing this oil right before bedtime). The fun part is that you can buy several different canopies to change up the look and feel of your diffuser from season to season!
